Sustainable Development began to draw wide attention and acceptance since the Brundtland Commission published its landmark report in 1987. The report signalled the urgency of re-thinking our ways of living and governing. Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development is the central concept for our age. It is both a way of understanding the world and a method for solving global problems. At the core of sustainable development is the need to consider three pillars viz., Society, economy and environment. Sustainable development calls for a world in which economic progress is widespread, social trust is encouraged through policies that strengthen the community, and the environment is protected from human-induced degradation. Success comes through putting all three pillars on the same progressive trajectory or path.
In keeping with the principle of sustainable development, SDRC has been involving in development activities and research through interdisciplinary approach for achieving sustainable development objectives. The centre has been executing a number of activities resulting in significant scientific and technical achievements since its inception in 2017.
